STRAND PLUS/MINUS SPRING 2025

ITS THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN FOR THE YEAR'S

MOST ANTICIPATED SPRING TOURNAMENT!!

Back by popular demand, this tournament will sell out in a hurry! It does every year! Heading into our 9th year the Strand Plus/Minus just keeps growing in status and legend. After a full season of drills and skills the kids fall in love with the Plus/Minus format as they are forced to play hockey the right way but are given the freedom to simply play, without having a coach barking orders every shift.

DETAILS

Format:

After a short warm-up of 3-5 minutes of skating around and shooting pucks 3 teams go to one bench and 3 teams go to the opposite bench. Teams will be rotated strategically two times in order for each team on one bench to play all three teams on the other bench. Once the puck is dropped it is 55 minutes of non-stop action.

PLAYERS:

  1. 5 on 5 hockey, one-minute shifts, change on the whistle.
  2. Players are grouped each week on different teams of 5 or 6 skaters.
  3. Teams are different each week and grouped to be competitive.
  4. Team scores a goal; each player receive a plus.
  5. Team gets scored on; each player receives a minus.
  6. Team with best plus/minus each session, each player receives a prize
  7. Each Individual players PLUS/MINUS is tallied weekly and at the end of the tournament the top 3 skaters receive prizes. At older age groups the last place minus also receives a Green Jacket Prize

GOALTENDERS

  1. Goal tenders' goals against are kept each week.
  2. Goals against are based on 5 goalies attending, if less than 5 attend then goals against will be prorated to reflect that in order to not give the advantage to the goalies who miss sessions.

Other Details:

  1. Players who miss a session cannot designate someone to show up in their place.
  2. Players/Goalies who miss more than 3 sessions cannot qualify for the final prize.
  3. Players/Goalies who do not attend the last session cannot qualify for the final prize. They cannot back into the prize.

MORE DETAILS:

  1. Players do a log roll after scoring while the other team picks the puck out of the net and keep the action going. This creates non-stop action.
  2. Sometimes due to vacations or sickness the teams may be below the 5 on a team threshold and shifts will be 4 on 4.
  3. 36 skaters are registered max. If everyone shows up the kids are placed on teams of 6 and 1 player sits out each shift in rotation. This means they will miss one shift every 6 which comes out to 3 shifts a session. 5 on a team is ideal, but the game runs better 5 on 5 so to ensure we have that we put 6 on a team in case of no shows.
